Piors of Norwich 1326-1406
Adam moved to the Priory of Norwich at some time in the early 1340's where he fell under the guidance of the Prior. Dugdale in his work, Monasticum Anglicanum records the names of the Priors who served during Adam's life and gives us a few notes on each. William de Claxtone priest, a monk of this monastery was elected by the convent and confirmed by the bishop Sept 4 1326. He was one of the commissioners for levying the fifteenths and tenths granted in 1343. He died Aug 16 1344 and was buried here. Simon Bozoun or Bohon was confirmed prior Aug 25 1344 and installed Aug 27. He resigned April 1352 being succeeded by Laurence de Leck a monk of the monastery who was confirmed by the bishop April 24 1352. He died in December 1357. Nicholas de Hoo or How another monk of the monastery was elected prior and confirmed by the bishop in the church of St Mary at Bures December 12 1357 at whose request on the ist January following the bishop granted a commission to brother Thomas de Felethorp, Robert de Jermemutha (Yarmouth) and William de Dersyngham, monks here, to hear confessions in the cathedral. He resigned in 1382. Alexander de Totington was the next prior. He was confirmed by the bishop April 13 1382. He was elected bishop of Norwich Sept 14 1406. |
