Adam Easton This site exists primarily to tell the story of Adam Easton, one of the most influential churchmen in the mediaeval period. Adam lived in the 14th century, a time of great calamity and enormous social and political upheavel, not just in England, but all over Europe. Largely ignored by historians until the last half century, during the latter years of his life and for two centuries after his death, Adam was regarded as a senior churchman of great influence and of considerable historical interest. This website seeks to pull together Adam's story. The website is divided up into sections that explain the background to life in the 14th century and then go on to look at detailed phases of Adam's life. Looking at the work he did and how it affected other people and our broader history. Each section contains a number of topics which you can select specific examples of contemporary life as shown through documents written at the time. Browse around and get a sense of what life was like being a 14th century peasant and how dramatically that changed as the peasant grew in stature and education and emerged as one of the most important English Cardinals.
