A growing influence
1391

Adam could help those who were attached to his court through his patronage, but until 1394 he had but a handful of courtiers. Nonetheless he was able to exert considerable influence in view of his seniority in the curia. In the two examples that follow Adam provides assistance to two Englishmen, one intimately involved in the machinations of courtly life in Rome, the other a priest from Adam's home town of Norwich. In each case Adam intervened to provide succour for their attempts to win an English benefice, an activity that the King would shortly make efforts to put a stop to. The third item shows how Adam was also using his influence to promote the careers of others loyal to the Roman papacy, in this case a priest from the Holy Roman Empire.
